In-Park
Emission Inventories and Mitigation Options
Reports for over 20 parks have been prepared by the National
Park Service. These reports address several air emission
sources commonly found in parks, such as visitor vehicles,
wildland fires, woodstoves, watercraft, and other sources.
The reports provide recommendations on how these emissions
might be mitigated as well. Finally, the reports provide
an overview of compliance with applicable state and local
air quality regulations. A single summary report for these
parks is available. (09/07/04) PDF
Additional
In-Park Inventories of Interest to the In/Near Forum
The Forum identified and prioritized 17 national parks for
the purpose of developing local, in-park emission inventories.
The Forum awarded a contract to the University of California
at Riverside to compile inventories for the eight highest
ranking parks. These inventories include:
- Estimates of in-park stationary, mobile, and area emission
sources;
- Identification of applicable federal, state, and/or local
regulations and assess compliance;
- Identification of potential emission reduction strategies;
and
- Comparison of the in-park emission estimates to adjoining
county and statewide totals.
